South Downs Ecology provides a range of ecological, arboricultural, woodland, landscape and other environmental services.
We cater to a range of clients, from homeowners looking to improve their homes, developers looking to unlock the potential of their land in an environmentally-conscious way, and landowners looking to assist in UK nature recovery through improvements to land management.
We have experience of a wide range of developments, including residential, healthcare, education, commercial and industrial land.
We regularly work with historic buildings including churches and listed buildings.

We have particular experience within Chichester, Arun, Horsham Districts and the South Downs National Park Authority.

Ecology
We provide the complete range of ecological services, from Preliminary Ecological Appraisal, Preliminary Bat Roost Assessments, Bat Emergence Surveys and other protected species surveys such as badger, water vole, dormouse, reptile, great crested newt and bird surveys. We can also provide Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments, Habitats Regulations Assessments and Expert Witness.

Arboriculture - Trees
We provide detailed tree surveys as part of planning proposals, as well as hazard and health assessments of trees.

Landscape Management and Enhancement
We have experience producing landscape management and enhancement plans for both development and land management projects, with a special focus on use of native species within planting schemes.

Biodiversity Net Gain
and Nitrate Mitigation
We are experienced in producing Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments and Nitrate Budget Assessments for a wide range of project, often employing novel techniques to ensure ecological benefits, and are able to provide off-site credits for these requirements where necessary.

Woodland Management
We are experienced in producing plans for the management and the enhancement of woodlands, including increasing ecological value alongside developing tourism and recreational uses. Our expertise across ecology and arboriculture give us a detailed insight into how best to balance various interests within woodlands.

Director and Lead Ecologist
I graduated in Environmental Sciences in 2011 and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Endangered Species Recovery in 2015. I have worked full-time as an ecological consultant since 2016, and have been undertaking bat surveys since 2012.

I started South Downs Ecology in 2023 and undertake the majority of the company's consultancy work. I also work with a range of local specialists where required to provide a complete environmental service.
